about

Dig into the warped, dusty, sample-laden world of the instrumental version of UFO Fev & Vanderslice’s noteworthy collab LP, ‘Enigma of Dalí.’ The focus here is, of course, Vanderslice’s work behind the boards, which continues to just get better and more singular with every project he touches.

Throughout the nine instrumentals on ‘Enigma of Dalí,’ the Phoenixville, PA native is at his most psychedelic and experimental as he embraces the titular artist’s avant-garde nature. But he’s also entirely glued to the streets, with the guttery, grimy sounds of underground hip-hop permeating his beats.

This is immediately clear on the opening track, “Crack Shifts,” which sounds like it burst out of concrete and into your headphones. Other highlights of that variety include the aptly titled “Artfully Done Street Shit” and “Pack Flip,” which is hauntingly beautiful. There’s jazzier, funkier moments, too, like on the smoky “Jazz Criminals” and the album’s closing track, “All That Glitters.”

It’s really yet another production triumph for Vanderslice, who has carved out his own lane these past few years and is not about to slow down. And if you’re feeling his work on this project, be sure to check out his other releases on Coalmine Records; ‘Collusion,’ with Diabolic (2019), and his ‘Trendsetter’ compilation EP (2020).
